Last week I reminded you to get your entries in for the inaugural Member/Guest weekend. I also alluded to the fact that we are entering a very busy period at the Club, and unfortunately this week I have to inform everybody that the Member/Guest has been postponed.

August is Women’s Month and this week we celebrated Women’s Day. The day commemorates the passion and determination of our women who stood up against injustice and helped change history for the better.

The weather continues to play havoc on our winter golf plans, and the various leagues have not been spared. The Southern Cape Golf Union has had a busy season as decisions have had to be made almost at every event.

Well, sitting last weekend watching the Open Championship, I thought for a moment they had moved it to the Southern Cape as the weather in Liverpool on Sunday resembled what we have had for the last two months. A big congratulations must go to Christo Lamprecht for winning the Silver medal as the leading amateur. A little research indicates that Christo was a member of George Golf Club from 2007 until 2013, which must indicate that he learned his golf at the same course we all love playing every week.

This week attention moves to Royal Liverpool, and it is not for a Beatles reunion. The 151st Open Championships returns to England, to the sight of Rory’s 2014 victory. And he is coming off a win in Scotland last week. Maybe the week to break a major drought? Let’s see.
