The Masters have a new champion in Jon Rahm. Congratulations to the young Spaniard, who I think, became the 8th winner in his twenties in the last nine majors contested. The odd one out was a then 50-year-old Phil Mickelson in 2021. I think it is safe to say that professional golf has become a young man’s game, driven by power and distance.

This week sees the start of the men’s majors season with the Masters at Augusta National. For GGC members this also means the traditional Masters’ Saturday sponsored by the Golfers Club. All the best to those competing in the event. The weather outlook is not promising, but then we all know George’s weather. Wait until Saturday as George’s weather does not let itself be dictated to by weather forecasts. Remember there will be a formal prize giving on Saturday evening as it is a sponsored event.

Well, as some of you may already know, thanks to my Facebook Manager, I have recently returned from rowing 65km on the Orange River. When doing these trips, I always like popping into the golf club in these Platteland little towns. It always fascinates me to see how passionate the members are about their courses, even though most play on desert like fairways and oil greens. What it does do, however, is make me realise how fortunate we are all to be members of such an awesome Golf Club. We truly are blessed.

March and April every year is usually a great time to get more golf in as we normally have three opportunities to take long weekends. But it can also play havoc on your work life. And for businesses to get things done can be challenging.

Congratulations to Ashleigh Buhai who cruised to victory in the Investec SA Women’s Open at Steenberg Golf Club over the weekend. This continued the form that also won her the AIG Women’s Open in 2022, and it would appear she is in the form of her life. Hopefully, we will see much more of her as she takes on the best in the game. We wish her all the best for the rest of the season!
